Big Love! from Typical Type

Our BIG LOVE adventure began in the Summer of 2013. Typical Type was born from many years of left over pieces of wood and MDF being made by Darren into letters and shapes during quiet moments in the workshop. Dotted all around our house are little letters and tokens of love, and we decided it was high time to spread the joy to others, and so started Typical Type. Then in October 2013 we were then asked if we could supply BIG lit letters for weddings by a photographer friend. When we say BIG, we really mean BIG. One frantic week later the leap was made from 20 cm letters to 6 foot high ones. Our first wedding fair saw us take 6 bookings and we knew we were on the right path.

We are based between the lovely old town of Lancaster and the glorious seaside town of Morecambe, and we now deliver our lovely BIG letters, numbers and lighting solutions all over the North West. Initially we worked from home, but now we have out-grown that and have a happy work shop near the river Lune, and deliver all over the North West.

Now we are the proud suppliers of 6 foot high lit letters to many, many weddings, parties and celebrations and our range has grown to include new lighting, such as festoons and Edisons. We understand that your day is yours. You have planned for months and make your choices carefully, and we are meticulous about getting things right for you. Our letters are insured, pat tested and immaculate. You will never see them at odd angles or looking a bit bashed – we want to get it perfect for you and go to great lengths to get it just right. Getting married is a truly joyful time, but it can be a little stressful too, so we are here to help, please just contact us if you have any queries at all, we LOVE to hear from you.

Each event is unique, created from scratch, as we know every client has a different set of objectives, a different budget and a different venue. We listen to the client so we fully understand the look they want to achieve or the atmosphere of the event they want to create. We will then produce a bespoke mood-board to demonstrate our ideas so it’s simple and easy for the client to visualise. The personal service you experience from Team Purple will make what can often be a stressful time, totally stress free and enjoyable. The client will then come away with a full event plan and the assurance of highly qualified Event Managers on the day/night of the event to guarantee the smooth running of your event.

Planning the Perfect Wedding!

I started Finesse Planning (www.finesseplanning.com) over 8 years ago to offer a design led planning service for couples wanting something personal and unique. Since then I have helped hundreds of couples achieve their perfect wedding whilst having fun during the planning process. I also had the honour of winning The 2013 Wedding Industry Awards for Best Wedding Planner (Independent).

As a design led wedding planner, one of the most enjoyable elements of my work is preparing the ‘Design Book’. After an initial discussion with my couple, I go away and use their ideas, wants, dreams and desires to produce a complete design proposal for their wedding. This 13 page book is then presented for them to choose the elements of the wedding they wish to have such as stationery, floral arrangements, attire, furniture, lighting, not forgetting the tableware plus so much more.
From the beginning of the journey to the very end, I work very closely with my couples, building a relationship that exceeds that of a normal wedding planner/client so that I can gain a true understanding of the type of wedding they are looking to create. It is so important to me that the wedding truly represents the both of them and this is why I facilitate them with ideas, so they can make the final decisions on every element of the wedding.

When working on the design book, with all of my weddings I immediately go straight to Whitehouse Event Crockery’s website for inspiration and to choose items to propose to my clients. Without fail there is always something that works with any scheme. For a recent wedding, the original scheme was to include the gold beaded daisy plate, however, after a lovely visit from Marc with an array of new products, I knew instantly that the pink Sienna charger would work perfectly with the Alex glassware and would add something unique to the popular blush and silver scheme. It didn’t disappoint!

Heaton House Farm is located between the rolling hills of the picturesque Staffordshire and Cheshire borders and has been in the hands of the same family for seven generations. Every year Whitehouse Event Crockery is invited to contribute to the farms inspirational dining tables at its renowned annual wedding fayre. The team of talented Event Coordinators are given a theme and tasked with designing a table set to blow couples away with the wonderful new ideas and suppliers to hit the industry.

This year they were givenSeasonsand Whitehouse Event Crockery provided something for every table! The crockery set a high standard and finished off the tables perfectly. There were some very excited couples when they saw the limitless options available to them.

In addition to the wedding fayre the venue will run several open days and evenings throughout the year. Couples are able to informally view the venue and meet with staff and suppliers in a relaxed environment. Like the wedding fayre, Whitehouse Event Crockery will often dress the tables with their latest beautiful designs, to help couples visualise the incredible potential available to them. The day and evening events are hugely popular and seen as a great opportunity for couples to see ceremony and dining set ups and to talk through their day with wedding industry professionals.

In March the venue hosted a pop-up dining experience at its new rustic barn The Old Stableyard, with Whitehouse Event Crockery supplying delicate Summerglass plates, Pennyblack 10x 5 oblong and round 10porcelain plates and Penny white 10 plates. The delicious seven course meal on the Saturday night, created by premier event caterers Vanilla in Allseasons, went down a treat and looked utter perfection on the beautiful crockery. In the midst of our spring Open Weekends!

Another Open Weekend is behind us – the sun shone, the visitors smiled and the tipis looked absolutely beautiful!

The brilliantly talented team of stylists that joined us brought their own interpretations of the ‘rustic-luxe’ theme, and their ideas complemented each others beautifully.  With our old friend Jan from Devon Vintage China, and new acquaintances Natalie from Meadowsweet Vintage and Elle from Inspire Hire (complete with Kate Cullen linen, Oyster & Pearl stationery and a chandelier!), we were surrounded by creativity.

Dressing and styling of the tipis wouldn’t have been complete without the glorious blooms supplied by dear Jess from West Dorset Wedding Flowers by the Poundbury Florist.  From gypsophila to orchids and everything in between, her beautiful floristry complimented the stylist’s work superbly.

The infinitely generous and accommodating South West Event Hire supplied tableware and chairs, and did a fair bit of to-ing and fro-ing for us on set up day – thank you once again Gordon!

Visitors needing advice and ideas on catering were in for a treat with Dartmoor Kitchen in the tipis – fresh from their Wedding Industry Award win.  We were also treated to a selection of mouth watering Tom’s Pies and an enormous carrot cake to keep the team’s energy levels up over the weekend.

All of the tipi loveliness was once again expertly captured by Sarah Lauren Photography (see above), the tipi wedding expert photographer and all round legend! Thank you so much Sarah.

Things would have been somewhat uncomfortable without Premier Luxury Loos, and the plushest facilities available on four wheels – they certainly contributed to the ‘luxe’ element of the weekend, completely dismissing even a hint of rustic!

Finally, on to our goody bags, and this year they were the best yet, packed with offers and samples. With treats from Wed Magazine, The Little Wedding Helper, Oakwood Soaperie, Cloud Nine Marshmallows, Wildflower Favours, Paper Tree and Bespoke Confetti – all our brides to be left with a smile.

And the fun isn’t over yet – for anyone who couldn’t make it to Darts Farm, this year we have a second spring Open Weekend at Burford Garden Company in the Cotswolds on 18th and 19th April.  With a new dream team of suppliers, we will be joined by Kate Cullen (styling), Acacia Floristry, Gilded Linens, Things By Laura, Parsnip Mash, Whitehouse Event Crockery and James Darling Photography.
